Overview

The event is a virtual presentation and Q&A on the Hengistbury Head Long Groyne construction works, where attendees can learn about the construction of a capital project procured through the Environment Agency Marine Coastal Framework. The project is part of a £36m programme of coastal erosion works across Poole Bay.

The long groyne at Hengistbury Head plays a critical role in reducing coastal erosion in Poole Bay and is a stabilising feature for Christchurch Bay. However, during storm events it is regularly submerged and its current condition means it is unable to continue to perform effectively, particularly with the additional threat of sea level rise.

The existing groyne has been dismantled in short sections at a time. The old concrete will be crushed into a new core base and new rock armour will be placed on top on the same alignment as the existing groyne, but wider and taller to accommodate sea level rise.

The webinar will include drone videography of the progress of the works and industry experts will be available to answer questions about the scheme.
