A number of incidents in recent years relating to some major construction projects have aroused public concern on various issues including, inter-alia, quality, programme, financial controls as well as net zero carbon/sustainability, in the planning and delivery of projects, leading to a loss of public trust in the construction industry. Along with other construction professionals, civil engineers are the key personnel in the project delivery process. We consider that we have the due responsibility to rebuild public confidence in the industry. As another wave of major construction projects is in the pipeline, it is opportune for civil engineers from all trades to jointly review and formulate effective means to regain the faith of the public.
The objective of the discussion forum is to raise the awareness and gather views/suggestions from members of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in Hong Kong in rebuilding public trust in our work in delivering major construction projects due to the public concerns as mentioned below.
