Overview

The Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association Graduates and Students Division (ICE HKA G&S) organises overseas delegations to encourage knowledge exchange and networking with engineering professionals overseas. ICE HKA G&S Japan delegation 2025 will be scheduled from 07 January 2025 to 12 January 2025. The theme of the delegation is Innovative smart city solutions: transforming and revitalising Tokyo’s urban infrastructure.

Tokyo was selected for the delegation this year. The Japanese engineering industry promotes a unique blend of cutting-edge technology, rich cultural heritage, and pioneering approaches to sustainable urban development. As a global leader in infrastructure innovation, Japan presents an unparalleled opportunity for our young members to broaden their horizons and explore the dynamic intersection of engineering, environmental stewardship, and community-centric design.

Our upcoming delegation will take delegates on a journey through Japan's premier infrastructure sites, including The University of Tokyo, the Shibuya Station Redevelopment by Tokyu Construction Company, Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited, Obayashi Corporation, and the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, where they will witness firsthand the country's remarkable progress in transforming its cities and transportation networks for a greener and more resilient future.

Delegates will have the chance to learn about innovative technologies and gain insights into the collaborative governance models that drive the ambitious projects. The delegation's itinerary will be carefully curated to showcase best practices in Japan in sustainable transportation, urban redevelopment, and integrated waste management systems.

Delegates not only will witness these engineering marvels but also delve into the cultural, historical, and societal perspectives that have enabled Japan's transition towards a more livable and low-carbon future.

After the delegation, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and takeaways with the broader ICE community through a dissemination seminar. This is the opportunity to inspire other emerging engineers and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on sustainable infrastructure development, fostering cross-pollination of ideas and best practices.
