Sustainable building innovations: electrochromic glass technology & practical applications! Join us as we explore the future of green construction in this revolutionary field.

By discovering how Electrochromic Glass dynamically controls light, heat, and privacy, participants will uncover its ability to enhance energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Through a deep dive into Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology for glass facades and steel structures, attendees will witness the transformative impact on design and fabrication processes. Our speakers will share valuable inspiration from captivating case studies featuring renowned projects like Peak Galleria and 11 Skies, showcasing practical applications and remarkable outcomes in sustainable building.

The seminar on electrochromic glass technology is co-organized by ICE HKA and IMechE-HKB with the support of to PolyU, aiming to bring together industry professionals to explore the benefits of these innovations and foster collaborative efforts in implementing them in real-world projects. During the seminar, expert speakers will share valuable insights and knowledge, shedding light on the advantages of electrochromic glass technology.

- Registration will be confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to the members of all organising institutions.
- Only successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail.
- Attendance certificates will be provided after two weeks of the event only if attendees attend the whole event.

Technical Report Prize:

The event is designated by the HKA committee and is eligible for the Technical Report Prize. ICE HKA awards prizes to ICE members who reside in Hong Kong and prepare reports of a high standard on the caption technical event. Winners will be given a prize of HK$500.

The event will be cancelled/rescheduled to another date in the case of a red or black rainstorm signal, or typhoon signal no. 3 or above is in force by the Hong Kong Observatory at or after 16:00. It may also be cancelled because of safety or other reasons.

Dr Dominic Yu

Dr Dominic Yu is a Research & Engineering based specialist in structural design and structural use of glass.  He is the Principal of Alpha Consulting Limited, providing consultancy services on glass and facade engineering, non-linear integrated design and analysis, structural fire engineering, product development, etc.  He is a Part-time Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering Programme of University of Central Lancashire & CityU SCOPE. 

He is also a Visiting Lecturer for MSc Module of Façade Engineering in the Civil Engineering Programme at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  Before joining Alpha Consulting Limited, Dr Yu worked as Specialist Test Consultant and Approved Signatory of Research Engineering Development Façade Consultants Limited (RED Façade and Fire HOKLAS Testing Laboratory).

Dr Yu obtained Doctoral Degree of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (Structures), Master Degree in Fire Safety Engineering, and Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering.  He worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to serve as Technical Secretary of the consultancy study contributing to the “Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Steel 2005” and the 2011 version. 

He also compiled the Explanatory Materials of the Steel Code for Buildings Department.  Dr Yu is Professional Consultant for the Consultancy Study of “Code of Practice for Structural Use of Glass 2018” for Buildings Department.

Dr Yu is also actively serving the industry and the university by delivering various technical seminars and lectures.  He delivered over 140 technical seminars in various institutions including HKIE, HKISC, HKIS, HKFA, RICS, HKICW, CIOB, BD, ArchSD, HD, etc., in which over 100 seminars since 2012 for the topics related to “Glass and Façade Engineering” including Statutory Requirements, Analysis, Design, Testing, Quality Control, Practical Consideration, Production, Installation, and Inspection.
