Overview

Are you interested in volunteering as an engineer? You will find a variety of volunteering opportunities in Hong Kong, whether you are hoping to give back to the community, contribute to special interest groups, protect the environment or put your skillset to good use for those in need.

In this webinar, our guest speakers come from different charitable organisations with their missions and visions to advance our sustainable city, namely:

  • Ms Y W Lai, Officer-in-charge of Community Liaison Team in Hung Shui Kiu of Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service (HKLSS);
  • Ms Eva Yeung, Senior Manager of Community Resilience Service of Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC);
  • Mr C Y Lam, Chairman of The Hong Kong Countryside Foundation;

They will share their insights on village revitalisation, disaster preparedness and community resilience education, and social service with well-being improvement. Also, participants would learn more about ICarE and EWB-HK and identify like-minded professionals.

Attending

  • Registration will be confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis, and priority will be given to ICE and EWB members.
  • Only successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail.
  • Attendance certificates will be provided for this event only if attendees attend the whole event.
  • Applicants with no-show records will be given lower priority in future ICE events.

Eva Yeung

Ms Eva Yeung is the Senior Manager from Hong Kong Red Cross. She has been engaged in the humanitarian and development field with international non-government organisations for over 15 years. She is enthusiastic in enhancing participatory approaches in community resilience programmes as well as sharing techniques in project management and disaster management through trainings and community projects. She is currently a member of the Urban Collaboration Platform from the International Red Cross network and keen on promoting the concept of community resilience in Hong Kong.

Lam Chiu Ying

Mr Lam Chiu Ying, SBS is Chairman of the Hong Kong Countryside Foundation, one of the initiators of the village revival efforts at Lai Chi Wo and also Honorary President of The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society. He was past Director of The Hong Kong Observatory and past Chairman of the Environmental Campaign Committee to promote public awareness of environmental protection issues. He will share his insights on village revitalisation of sustainable Lai Chi Wo today.

ICE Caring Engineering (ICarE) was established in Hong Kong under Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association (ICE HKA) in 2011 with the aim to provide civil engineering volunteering services by mobilising civil engineers to improve the living conditions of local communities in selected areas. It also serves the purpose of promoting social responsibility and awareness of international affairs in the civil engineering industry.

Engineers Without Borders Hong Kong (EWB-HK) was established in Hong Kong under the EWB-International in 2008 with the aim to empower the disadvantaged community with engineering solutions to achieve sustainable development. It also enhances the capacity of Hong Kong built professionals and young generations to contribute to the communities in need.
