J. Murphy & Sons began construction of the 6.5km pipeline for Wessex Water in the summer of 2019. When completed it will connect Bristol’s trunk sewer in Lawrence Weston to the Frome Valley relief sewer near Cribbs Causeway.
Some 5.5km of the pipeline has already been completed with a 2.85m diameter segmentally-lined tunnel using an earth pressure balance tunnel boring machine (EPB TBM). The remaining 1km will predominantly be constructed using open-cut methods.
The presentation will provide an overview of the project, initial optioneering that was carried out to develop the scheme, and achievements to date.
