Overview

Linzi Hedalen and Kirsti Olson are partners in the Contentious Construction team at Dentons in Edinburgh. Dentons has a wide-ranging practice – dealing with construction and engineering disputes in many sectors such as real estate, hotels, housebuilding, transport, education, health, offices, marine and other infrastructure projects.

Currently, with the rise in contractor insolvencies and delays, the Dentons construction team is receiving an increasing number of enquiries from clients asking for assistance with their payment processes. Clients (and their advisors) must be particularly careful to ensure that applications for payment received are responded to on time and with the correct notices, to avoid payment having to be made in circumstances when it ought to be retained.

This presentation will provide a "back to basics" round up of how payments and notices work within a building contract context and, crucially, advice on how to avoid exposing clients to payment issues and disputes.

For those attending in person, the event will begin at 17:30 with refreshments and networking, with the presentation beginning at 18:00.
