Part of the bank of the River Stour in Dorset near Sturminster Newton is slipping into the river, requiring works to stabilise the bank to stop any further movement and protect the busy A357.
This site visit is an opportunity to see the ongoing construction project and view the equipment being used to repair the bank. The project is about two thirds of the way through so all aspects of the design can be seen before works finish and the engineering within the bank is hidden from view.
The project for Dorset Council took four years to design and provides a solution to overcome a variety of challenges that have seen previous stabilisation attempts to fail. Representatives from the council, Heidelberg Materials, VSL and WSP will be on site to discuss the initial brief, the design, unforeseen problems, project delivery and environmental benefits.
The tour will take place on a live construction site, and as a result, places are limited.
All attendees will need to wear their own full PPE, including safety boots, high visibility clothing, hard hat, and ear defenders.
Welcome and coffee at site office
