Join us for the April ICE Sustainability Reading Club event, part of a series of virtual social events to discuss reports and articles relating to sustainability and climate change in the civil engineering sector.

This month, to complement the 2022 UN Biodiversity Conference, we will be discussing two pieces of reading around biodiversity in the built environment.

One, a New Civil Engineer article, looks at infrastructure’s potential to enhance biodiversity, while the other provides case studies of development projects that have successfully incorporated biodiversity into the built environment.

The goal is to read an article ahead of the event and discuss it in a friendly group setting. We are hoping to cover the topic from a range of perspectives!

While there will be a brief summary of the reading material at the beginning of the meeting, we recommend that attendees read the chosen articles ahead of the meeting to ensure they can participate properly.

This month’s reading is available here:

Lessons from Green Infrastructure Best Practice

The purpose of the Reading Club is to encourage open conversation around sustainability in our industry, help to keep civil engineers up to date with relevant news and literature, and provide a friendly, informal networking opportunity for any that wish to attend.

While it is organised with early careers professionals in mind, the event is open to anyone that would like to join the conversation!

Committee members will be present to provide some prompts and questions to get the conversation going and moderate the conversation if need be.

For those of us with a long list of things-to-read that never seems to get shorter, this event is a great opportunity to make time for a bit of reading and a chat with a group of peers!
