Join us for the June ICE Sustainability Reading Club event, part of a series of virtual social events to discuss reports and articles relating to sustainability and climate change in the civil engineering sector, this month reading about climate equity and justice, and how it relates to us as civil engineers!
The purpose of the Reading Club is to encourage open conversation around sustainability in our industry, help to keep civil engineers up to date with relevant news and literature and provide a friendly, informal networking opportunity for any that wishes to attend. While it is organised with early-career professionals in mind, the event is open to anyone that would like to join the conversation!
Committee members will be present to provide some prompts and questions to get the conversation going and moderate the conversation if need be.
For those of us with a long list of things to read that never seems to get shorter, this event is a great opportunity to make time for a bit of reading and a chat with a group of peers!
While there will be a brief summary of the reading material at the beginning of the meeting, we recommend that attendees read the chosen article ahead of the meeting to ensure they can participate properly.
This month, we will be having a chat about two articles on climate equity and justice; the first gives a brief introduction to climate justice as an overall concept, while the second considers a case study highlighting the importance of considering community needs and engagement in infrastructure projects. We will be discussing the two pieces of reading separately, and also thinking about how one might apply to the other. The reading is available here:
