Overview

The Northern Geotechnical Group would like to invite you to attend a presentation discussing the use of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method of installing pipelines or conduits and cables underground, along a predetermined path, using specialised drilling equipment. This approach provides a flexible way of installing pipes and cables where conventional open-cut methods are not permitted, practical, environmentally or economically viable.

The presentation shall provide an overview of the horizontal directional drilling method and history, from its humble origins to current uses including ground investigation. It will also highlight specific challenges from both installation and ground conditions.

Refreshments and network opportunities will be provided before the event, starting at 17:45.

Andy Brown

Andy Brown is the Drilling Manager at Stockton Drilling Ltd. Andy started in the drilling industry in 1982 and has been at the forefront of the use and development of HDD ever since. He has extensive experience in undertaking HDD onshore infrastructure as well as for landfall and shore approaches in varying ground conditions, from soft soils to hard rock. Andy has been involved in everything from use of guidance systems, training of personnel, design and application of drilling tools, project planning and feasibility studies.
