What is Inclusive Design? Accounting for the needs of all in the public realm

Dean Cavanagh

Dean joined Arup in 2020 after a long public service career, to join an experienced Access and Inclusive Environments team as a consultant. He is a strong advocate of removing barriers for disabled people within society and the built environment and has significant lived experience as a permanent wheelchair user.

Dean has been involved in campaigning for disabled people’s rights and setting up and chairing disabled staff groups in the public sector for more than two decades.

Dean is the first Co-chair of Connect Ability in the UKIMEA region, which launched in December 2021 and is looking forward to working with staff across all regions in Arup to promote and deliver disability equality.
