Construction of the Lee Tunnel under London.

About this event

The lecture will include an overview of the project from its inception to its current operational phase highlighting the key features of the project and some of the challenges which were overcome by the combined Project Team.

Detailed aspects which will be discussed include the various construction methods employed, the innovative means of design and construction of shaft and tunnel linings, the geotechnical hazards considered and encountered, and the monitoring and analysis of shaft excavation induced settlement.

The lessons learnt in the design and construction of the Lee Tunnel have proved of great value to the industry, particularly given the Tideway Tunnel Project now moving in to its construction phase.

This talk will contribute to ICE Development Objectives/Attributes focused on project management and engineering problems.
