About this event

Following 12 years post-University life in the Czech Republic in both employed and self-employed roles Matthew Gibbs spent 8 years working for Lancashire County Council in various Highways-related roles on behalf of Jacobs.

During this time Matt established a part-time Health & Wellbeing business following on from health challenges faced by himself and his wife, but also based on the numerous challenges he noticed amongst colleagues both in Jacobs, LCC and the wider business community.

Matt no longer has time for the "day job" and runs a business involved in Health Advocacy, Workplace Wellbeing, Lifestyle coaching, and Nordic Walking.

Matt's interests include research into the Serious Leisure Perspective and the trans-theoretical behavioural change model, but more importantly actual delivery of these theories into society to facilitate behavioural change with regard to health, wellbeing and happiness both at home and in the workplace.

Matt will give a short talk on:

  • the journey of his personal transition from poor health to improved wellbeing in relation to his career/business.
  • the challenges faced by businesses wanting to deal more effectively with absenteeism and presenteeism due to stress, musculoskeletal and mental wellbeing issues
  • highlight some of the research into wellbeing, neuroscience, happiness, mental health, and serious leisure. Several examples of leading edge companies who are creating effective and happy workplaces will be given along with suggestions businesses can adopt to improve the productivity and wellbeing of their staff.

This will be followed by a short practical taster session.

Speaker: Matt Gibbs

Refreshments will be served from 18:00 for a meeting start of 18:30.
