About this event

Wind is one of the most abundant renewable energy resources on the planet. The wind turbine industry is built around Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT). Onshore this technology can be deployed with little or no Government subsidies; Offshore HAWT still has significant financial challenges to be cost effective. The shallow water opportunities for offshore HAWT are gradually being developed, forcing the market to consider deeper water locations, requiring floating structures.

Kite energy solutions can be developed for circa half the price of conventional HAWT in 40m of water, and substantially lower cost for deeper water.

So we are now at a crossroads in making a technology decision; does the industry plough more money in to finding lower cost solutions for floating HAWT, or do we hedge our bets and develop deep water kite energy systems?

The presentation will cover:

  • A background to Airborne Wind Energy Systems
  • The benefit of the KPS technology over HAWT and market differentiators
  • An overview with other Airborne Wind Energy System developers
  • A summary of LCOE
  • The progress in development to date
  • An overview of the 3MW floating system
  • Construction
  • Installation
  • Maintenance etc
  • KPS Future plans
