About this event

The Manchester Northern Hub Package A is an extremely challenging multi-disciplinary project involving the formation of an Alliance of partners Skanska BAM JV, Amey Sersa, Siemens, OCR and Network Rail. The project has been managed under a collaborative working form of contract and the scope includes major re-signalling and track renewal works, alteration and construction of new electrified lines along with assessment and strengthening of a combination of brick viaduct and flat span structures.

The project includes construction of new complex iconic structures such as the River Irwell bridge. River Irwell is the first railway network arch bridge in the UK and is set alongside heritage structures of great significance where aesthetics are paramount.

The presentation covers the design and construction scope, design management challenges, technical hurdles in particular temporary works and demolition activities and future lessons to be taken forward.
