HKA G&S: Spain delegation 2024

Overview

ICE HKA G&S is going to organise the Spain delegation 2024 from 05 July to 13 July 2024 in Madrid.

Spain stands out as an exceptional destination for our construction industry’s practitioners seeking to broaden their horizons and explore the vibrant intersection of innovation, history and culture. With its rich architectural heritage, cutting-edge technological advancements and thriving engineering community, Spain offers a unique and inspiring environment for engineering students and young engineers to explore.

Our upcoming delegation to Spain in renewable energy, transportation infrastructure and more will allow delegates to witness first-hand these successful engineering examples in these areas.

To achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), smart and innovative engineering solutions are the keys to success. Delegates would have chance to learn about the brilliant ideas realised in Spain and learn more about projects where engineering solutions have been ingeniously applied to daily challenges in the living environment. Also, our delegates to learn more about the good practices in civil engineering and the smart technologies being applied in the built environment.

In this delegation, delegates will be privileged to explore the culture, history and engineering highlights of Spain, which will surely be an eye-opening experience. They will learn from the best practices towards sustainable development through various site and company visits in Spain.

Delegates will not only learn about intelligent technologies being applied in daily life, but they will also bring back these excellent ideas in Spain and share to the construction industry in Hong Kong. After the delegation, delegates will be sharing their experience and learning outcomes in Spain with other Student and Graduate Members of ICE HKA through a dissemination seminar.

Application:

The online application form will be opened at 10.00 on 16 May 2024 (Thursday), which will be closed at 17.00 on 30 May 2024 (Thursday), or when the delegation is full.

Please complete the online application form, and submit your cheque (payable to “The Institution of Civil Engineers (Hong Kong) Limited”) and all necessary documents in person or by mail to:

Remarks:

• All delegates must be local practitioners of civil engineering/other engineering fields and Hong Kong permanent residents.
• The itinerary is tentative and is subject to change.
• The application is on a first-come-first-served basis.
• Application will be considered as completed only upon receipt of your completed online application form (to be submitted together with a 300-word platform statement for student prize applicants), full payment, a declaration form and a photocopy of your HKID card and travel documents.
• Only successful applicants will receive confirmation emails.
• Once confirmed, payment is non-refundable.
• Travel insurance will be provided upon successful registration, while delegates can consider purchasing additional insurance if needed.
• Participants must attend the briefing session regarding the delegation trip before departure.
• ICE HKA G&S reserves the right to limit the number of delegates associated with the same organisation.

• Attendance certificates will be provided after 2 weeks of the event only if attendees attend the whole event.
• ICE HKA reserves the rights of final decision in any case of disputes.

Delegation student prize:

ICE HKA G&S encourages university students to explore the civil engineering industry both within and outside Hong Kong. Relying on the positive response received in previous years, we are glad to continue hosting the delegation student prize for university students. Awardees of the student prize will be eligible for a sponsorship of HKD $3,000 for the delegation. All ICE student members currently pursuing undergraduate degrees are eligible to apply for the prize.

Application for the student prize:

To apply, the applicant should:

1. Fill in the online application form for the delegation.
2. Prepare a platform statement.
3. Submit a photocopy of the student ID card.

The student prize:

• HKD $3,000 sponsorship for Spain delegation 2024
• An award certificate to be given in the dissemination seminar

Obligations of student prize winner after the delegation:

1. To submit a 400-word study report
2. To deliver a number of presentations as invited by the G&S committee, including but not limited to the dissemination seminar after Spain delegation 2024
3. To be one of the ambassadors in their respective universities to promote the ICE membership and future events.

Award will be granted only if the student prize winner undertakes all of the above obligations.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (Hong Kong Association) shall not under any circumstances be liable or otherwise for death or any injury or for any damage to or loss or destruction of property or otherwise, in any such case arising from any accident or mishap, and whether during or after this event, in preparation for it, travelling to or from it or otherwise.

Prices

Due to fluctuations in flight and accommodation prices, the prices for the Spain delegation in 2024 have been revised. 

• The fee covers round-trip flight tickets, hotel accommodation (shared double room), local transportation, meals (breakfast and lunch) and admission fees during the visit. 
• Travel insurance will be provided upon successful registration while delegates can consider purchasing additional insurance if needed.
• Please submit a cheque with the revised price mentioned above.
• But if you submit a cheque with the original amount, it will still be accepted.
• However, there is a grace period until 17.00 on 30 May 2024 for you to resubmit a new cheque with the revised prices.
• For example: If you are a member and submitted a cheque with the original member price (HKD 9,000 + HKD 500 refundable deposit), you must resubmit a new cheque with the revised member price (HKD 13,000 + HKD 500 refundable deposit) by 17.00 on 30 May 2024. 
• Failure to submit a new cheque with the revised price by the deadline will result in losing your place, regardless of your initial priority based on the first-come, first-served basis.
