Overview
ICE HKA is organising a delegation trip to the Netherlands from 13 October to 20 October 2024, as one of its 25th anniversary signature events. The Netherlands is renowned for its progressive and innovative approach to sustainable development and climate resilience, particularly in the construction sector.
With the institution’s emphasis on sustainable development, we have chosen the Netherlands as the destination for the delegation. Participants will not only explore new infrastructure projects that embed sustainability at their core, but also discover how existing infrastructure can be upcycled to meet sustainable targets in the built environment. From traditional windmills to modern wind farms, and from industrial container ports to smart and sustainable ports working towards carbon neutrality, this delegation will introduce different cases of sustainable transformation in the built environment. Delegates may gain valuable insight towards applying these sustainable practices in Hong Kong.
In addition to visiting various infrastructure projects, the delegation will also include knowledge exchange sessions at the Delft University of Technology, as well as with a number of engineering consulting firms and contractors in the Netherlands. These interactive sessions will provide ample opportunities for delegates to connect with Dutch practitioners, scholars, and students.
Benefits to delegates:
- Visiting landmark infrastructure projects in the Netherlands and learning the methodology of balancing nature and human living needs in urban development.
- Obtaining new knowledge on the forefront of coastal engineering and flood defence systems to enhance resilience against climate change impacts.
- Gaining insights into how Dutch authorities integrate sustainability, public welfare, and technological innovation into urban transportation planning.
- Acquiring knowledge on strategies for promoting sustainability in construction projects while still meeting the demands of a growing population and rapid urbanisation.
- Establishing communication channels with the Dutch practitioners and academia, and exploring potential for future collaborations.
