Overview
Many attractions such as marine parks, old temples, eco-tourism sites are located at remote rural areas without land access and rely on marine transport. In recent years, number of visitors attracted to these remote destinations has been constantly increasing. Hence, public piers play an important role in accessing these remote destinations. There are about 120 public piers in Hong Kong. The majority of these piers are built, maintained and managed by the government.
The project team will share the experience on the reconstruction of Sham Chung Pier sized about 540 m² which consists of
- Reinforced concrete pier head supported on socketed steel H-piles
- Floating platform
And also the reconstruction of Sam Mun Tsai Village Pier sized about 850 m² which consists of
- Reinforced concrete pier head supported on socketed steel H-piles
- Solid pier made up of catwalk units
- Floating platform
Capacity: 30 participants + 3 helpers
Gathering Time: 9am
Gathering Venue: Tai Po Market MTR station (exit to be considered). A shuttle will be arranged for transportation between the project office and Tai Po Market MTR station
Fees: Free of Charge
Remarks:
- Clothing: please dress in light informal attire and don’t wear shorts or dresses/skirts
- Shoes: please wear safety shoes / boots and don’t wear mules or sandals
- Participants should have the Construction industry safety training certificate or equivalent document for site
- Registration will be confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis and priority will be given to ICE members
- Only successful applicant will receive confirmation e-mail
- Attendance certificates will be provided after 2 weeks of the event only if attendees attend the whole event.
Adverse weather arrangements:
The event will be cancelled or rescheduled to another date in case of Black Rainstorm Alert; or Typhoon Signal No.3 or above being in force by the Hong Kong Observatory 2 hours before the tour. It may also be cancelled because of safety or other reasons.
