Overview
Join the ICE East Midlands North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire Branch for a site visit to the Claymills victorian Pumping Station in Burton upon Trent.
The Claymills Pumping Station is a restored Victorian sewage pumping station. The town of Burton upon Trent had severe problems of sewage disposal in the 1800’s due to a large number of breweries situated in the area, the pumping station ran up until 1969.
The Pumping station was decommissioned in 1972 as a new integrated sewage and digestion plant was built on the site. The original pumping station was left as a back up and in 1993, a trust was set up to restore and operate the station.
This event is a great opportunity for those wishing to learn more about the history and developments of pumping stations.
