Overview

How can the UK’s construction industry be seen as more welcoming and supportive to women at all stages of their career?

Starting a family, taking a career break to travel, or taking on caring responsibilities might not always be top of mind when considering a new role. Therefore, how can careers in the construction industry continue to adapt to experiences women – in particular – might face? 

In this webinar, the speakers will discuss these points, share their own experiences, and also pass on advice they wish they had been given.

They will also explore what a supportive company looks like, how companies can develop and support women during their working life, and whether there’s enough visible role models at senior level. 

This event celebrates International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) and its theme; Enhanced by Engineering. INWED celebrates the amazing work that women engineers are doing to support lives and livelihoods every day. 

Together, women can support each other and promote their achievements in the industry.

Gaia Corelli

Gaia Corelli is a chartered senior structural engineer at WSP with eight years of experience in the design, assessment and maintenance of bridges. She joined WSP as a graduate engineer after obtaining her Master of Science in Structural Engineering at University of Florence, Italy. 

Gaia has contributed to a range of minor and major schemes, involving both road and rail bridges and other civil structures. Alongside her technical work, she enjoys supporting the development of her team and promoting civil engineering to young people as a STEM ambassador.

Ellen Lancaster is an associate engineer and team manager of the Wrexham civil team for WSP. Ellen has 15 years’ experience of working in bridges and civils, and has had two maternity periods with WSP. Ellen has 3 boys – a seven-year-old and three-year-old twins.
