Overview
The £1.5bn A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme includes a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon and 21 miles of upgrades. Work officially started in November 2016 and the new road opened to traffic on 5 May 2020 – eight months earlier than originally planned.
The scheme includes many innovations that have contributed to the early completion of the works – reduced congestion will contribute to reduced CO2 emissions once traffic levels return to (new) normal levels.
Julian Lamb, Deputy Project Director, will talk about the innovations used to cut carbon including on-site manufacture, green energy initiatives, digital engineering, and organisational integration.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion with ICE President Paul Sheffield on working towards net zero carbon.
