A14 Improvements – Carbon, waste and more

Overview

The £1.5bn A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme includes a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon and 21 miles of upgrades. Work officially started in November 2016 and the new road opened to traffic on 5 May 2020 – eight months earlier than originally planned.

The scheme includes many innovations that have contributed to the early completion of the works – reduced congestion will contribute to reduced CO² emissions once traffic levels return to (new) normal levels.

Julian Lamb, Deputy Project Director, will talk about the innovations used to cut carbon including on-site manufacture, green energy initiatives, digital engineering, and organisational integration.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion with ICE President Paul Sheffield on working towards net zero carbon.
