Overview
Join ICE West Midlands Graduates & Students Network (GSNet) and Jonathan Read of FJD Consulting for the annual bridges lecture.
The speaker will discuss how practicality and applicability of the design solutions can significantly affect the implementation success on time-critical installs in the railway infrastructure environment. Jonathan will also discuss industry progression of bridge detailing during his career, from 2D drawings to BIM Level 2 compliant modelling, and the move towards increased modularity of bridge structures. The benefits and limitations of these industry shifts are reviewed based on implementation of several schemes.
Whilst the theoretical design of bridges is often the focus of many developing engineers, and rightly a significant part of training, there is often limited opportunity to gather understanding from the site environment and implementation of those designs.
This talk looks to highlight some of the key items of practicality related to bridge engineering on several schemes over the last 10-15 years, as experienced by the presenter.
