Overview

Join ICE West Midlands Graduates & Students Committee for the annual bridges lecture.

Presented by Mark Griffin FICE, the lecture will explore all aspects of civil engineering, from the fundamentals of basic structural analysis to the practical aspects of design, construction and risk communication.

Mark will also throw light on the subjects challenges facing early career professionals and what can be done to reduce their re-occurrence to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Mark Griffin FICE

Mark has been a civil engineer for 40 years and is an ICE Fellow. Until recently, he was also Technical Principal in Mott MacDonald’s Bridges team. His expertise covers all areas of bridge engineering, predominantly in the UK but he has also been recruited on projects overseas. The early part of his career was spent designing and building highway bridges, he later into rail bridge design and assessment. Since 2017, Mark has been the Bridges Discipline Lead for the northern section of High Speed 2.

Driven by his passion to develop others, Mark has led the Mott MacDonalds bridges efforts to recruit and train early career professionals successfully bringing many young budding engineers into the profession and supporting them in their journey through to Chartership and beyond.
