Overview
Rachel Skinner, ICE President launched ICE Carbon Champions in January 2021 to build on and accelerate efforts following her online inaugural address and specially commissioned, film - Shaping Zero.
ICE Carbon Champions is aimed at recognising individuals and teams who are already on the path to reducing carbon. The goal is to encourage a fast-growing group of ‘champions’ who are keen to share, collaborate and learn from each other and contribute to the need for real and urgent action to actively reduce carbon emissions across the whole industry.
During the webinar, the President will talk about her Shaping Zero campaign, the creation of ICE Carbon Champions, why infrastructure and built environment professionals should take part and the process of applying.
The session will also feature people who are applying to become Carbon Champions, including Craig Small, Project Director, Kier Infrastructure (Kier Bam) and Stephen Beggs, Director, Curtins.
The webinar is being staged in partnership with Constructing Excellence South West with the aim of raising awareness about carbon reduction initiatives in construction across the region.
The webinar is one of a series of online events as part of the 2021 ICE Presidential Visit to South West England.
More about ICE Carbon Champions
Applications are encouraged from any initiative that relates to carbon reduction. These can be big or small, at any lifecycle stage, and anywhere in the world.
ICE is interested in all efforts to reduce carbon: examples might include net zero strategies, lower carbon design, lower carbon materials, less wasteful construction, or simply using less carbon in the workplace.
Entries must include a quantifiable amount of carbon saved and a method in relation to the carbon reduction calculation. This can follow any method you find useful.
For team examples, all those involved should have played a significant part in reducing the carbon impact on a project, but only one of these individuals needs to be an ICE member.
Submitted projects will be assessed and verified by a panel of experts, with the case studies and data also used to provide valuable insight for The Carbon Project - the ICE’s long-term programme to share knowledge and best practice on delivering low-carbon solutions.
Apply to become an ICE Carbon Champion at ice.org.uk/knowledge-and-resources/carbon-project/carbon-champions-form.
