ICE Kolkata hosted its third invited lecture on 9 August 2019 at the TT Room in the Lake Club and the event was attended by about 27 attendees, mostly ICE student members.

The talk was delivered by Rudraprasad Bhattacharyya GMICE, now pursuing his doctoral study at Vanderbilt University, USA.

Bhattacharyya has more than 10 years of experience in teaching, research, analysis, and design of structural systems and had presented his research in various conferences in India, Canada, and USA.

His experience covers technical as well as leadership ability in professional societies like the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to promote civil engineering, being a reviewer for journals, and serving in several committees of ASCE including ‘Global Strategy Council’.

He received ASCE’s ‘2017 Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award’ and Institution of Engineers India’s ‘Young Engineers Award’ for 2014-15.

The lecture covered two major topics on priority management; to understand one’s personal view and smooth transitioning from technical to managerial responsibilities.

It focused on the development of key skills, such as effective delegation and managing team performance. In this regard, different social styles were discussed to explain versatility. It also identified the ways to keep personal and organisational balance and empowerment of an individual through commitment and motivation.
