Overview
The use of timber as a construction material has become more popular, particularly in the last couple of years. This, in turn, has introduced new engineered systems that differ and enhance the possibilities of timber as a construction material. This type of construction, however, requires a design team to consider topics such as acoustics, vibrations and fire resistance. They are often left aside in the early design stages, particularly where the material of choice is concrete.
This presentation will focus on recurring topics discussed during the design process to preempt changes at later stages. The presenters will discuss a case study of Campus Echternach, a new school building in Luxembourg where both concrete and timber structures are used.
