Join the ICE East Midlands Early Careers Network for this lunchtime event aimed at students, apprentices and graduates looking for an insight into the rail industry. The event will include talks from three civil engineers with different experiences and career journeys, working on HS2 and other rail projects. The following themes will be discussed:

  • Introduction to HS2 and the railway as a system
  • Coordinating the civil engineering design of rail projects
  • Track design and the track/civil engineering interface
  • Turning design into reality on site.

The event will end with a Q&A session to ask the presenters about their careers and any advice they have for early career professionals interested in the rail industry.

Alex Romankiw

Alex Romankiw currently works as a sub-agent for a principal contractor on the HS2 project, previously working in highways and structures for a number of years. He rediscovered cycling during lockdown in 2020 and now is a member of several cycling campaign groups in his native Leicester, promoting active travel.

As a campaigner, he regularly meets with Leicester City Council and comments on cycling issues and improvements, including trialling the Santander Cycles Leicester bike-share scheme before public roll-out. He is also one of the Programme Secretaries for the ICE East Midlands G&S Committee.
