Overview
Leaving a legacy of employment, skills and training in the communities we serve through project delivery – Network Rail and it contractors have jointly developed an Employment, Skills and Training Strategy that aims to maximise value and achieve long term efficiencies by:
- Attracting and retaining the best talent; enabling a wide talent pool to compete for jobs on the programme, including people living local to works, and supporting people working on the programme to achieve their best
- Achieving best value for money; enabling a wide range of appropriate, relevant suppliers, including SMEs and "local" suppliers, to compete for places in our supply chain and therefore getting the widest range of bids and proposals from the marketplace
Creating a culture of Fairness, Inclusion and respect - The Construction Industry Training Board estimates that we need 224,000 new entrants to the construction industry by 2019, in order to deliver the pipeline of works already scheduled. To do this, we need to develop the culture of our workplaces so that ours is a sector that can attract, train and retain people, from the UK's increasingly diverse talent pool.
