Overview

Canterbury Works Headhouse and ventilation shaft serves the Euston Tunnels for both ventilation and emergency access. This presentation focuses on the construction of the shaft and tunnels using underpinned segments, sprayed concrete lining, reinforced concrete collars and cast in-situ secondary lining.

The presentation will be delivered by members of the construction and design team and will focus on the design and construction of the primary and secondary lining featuring geotechnical challenges, site setup, and innovations.

Joao is a civil engineer with over ten years of experience working on geotechnical and heavy civil engineering projects in the UK and overseas. Specialised in finite element modelling with proficient level in MIDAS 2D/3D and Plaxis 2D.

Experience includes ground/structure interaction analysis, slope stability analysis, structural and geotechnical design of tunnels and shafts, station boxes, shallow and deep foundations and earth retaining structures (pile walls, diaphragm walls, reinforced earth walls and cantilever walls).

Rickard Barbet

Rickard is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 10 years of experience working on major projects. He started as a graduate engineer with Skanska on the Paddington Bakerloo Line Link for Crossrail before working through the ranks as a shift engineer and later as section engineer. Rickards role on HS2 began with enabling works at Euston, before moving to Canterbury Shaft as the agent.

He is experienced in SCL and TBM tunnelling; jacked and underpinned shafts; pipejacking, timber headings, and complex underground reinforced concrete structures.
