Overview
Delivered by the Department for Infrastructure, this project will upgrade 14.7 kilometres of the A6 North Western Transport Corridor between Randalstown and Castledawson in Northern Ireland which is used by 20,000 vehicles each day (Average Annual Daily Traffic). The flagship investment of £160m will strengthen the links between Belfast and Derry/Londonderry and will bring long-term benefits of reduced journey times and improved road safety to road users and the local community.
GRAHAM Farrans Joint Venture (GFJV) were awarded the design and build contract for this essential work, which will bring great social and economic benefit to the local area. A design Joint Venture comprising Arup and Roughan O’Donovan completed the detailed design for GFJV and provided construction supervision for the scheme.
This talk will set out the design challenges overcome in delivering this complex scheme, including negotiating difficult ground conditions, environmental constraints and undertaking construction adjacent to a live highway.

Brian Eadie is a Chartered Engineer and accredited NEC 3 Supervisor with more than 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. He has worked for both consultants and contractors and has been responsible for the delivery of major highway and airport schemes. Brian currently leads the A6 Randalstown to Castledawson DSR team.
