Overview

When simple de-clashing of reinforcement on site can lead to days or weeks of delays, and when you have more than 10million reinforcement bars and 30,000 embedded items, how do you secure your programme and assure buildability? – You go Digital!

Dave Cotton, Technical Director at Atkins, will present on the use of digital technologies in the design of the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, currently under construction, to maximise design efficiency and buildability and to mitigate against delays on site.

The talk will provide an overview of the Hinkley Point C project; describe the programme, design and construction challenges faced by the reinforced concrete building structures on site; and introduce digital technologies such as in-house developed design-automation tools, graphical user interfaces, and the world’s largest 3D reinforcement detailing capability.

Dave will also expand on how this award-winning effort and a true spirit of collaboration across companies, stakeholders and time zones, has reaped dividends on site.
