This lectures looks at the progression from the EU Trans-European Intermodal Network, which had the ambition to be a key element of the Internal Market and the reinforcement of Economic and Social Cohesion by supporting effective and sustainable mobility of goods and people, establishing interconnection and interoperability of national networks as well as access to such networks, to the new ‘Connecting Europe Facility’.
This lecture looks at this new core trans-European transport network (TEN-T) focusing on the nine new multimodal corridors. It also highlights the issues that the Member States and EU will have to face in order to implement the new strategy within the time frame, including the dangers of ignoring new technologies and sticking to traditional methods.
To demonstrate this, Dr Ioannis uses a case study using recycled existing pavements mixed with Foamed Bitumen. He concludes with his thoughts for approaching the "future” at a faster pace and keeping an open window to evolution.
Dr. Ioannis Anestis, Design and Support Manager in NEA & KENTRIKI ODOS S.A
