Overview

Eoin will present and answer questions about this fascinating railway civil engineering project, which re-bored the original Victorian tunnel, increasing its diameter and allowing electrification of the railway line between Manchester and Preston.

Keeping the adjacent lines open for passenger traffic and passing only metres beneath a main road, this is a dramatic example of innovation at work in the technically challenging rail sector.

This is a joint event between RCEA and BTS.
