Overview

The next major upgrade for the Brighton Mainline, the £150M Gatwick Station Project was announced earlier this year. In the last 10 years the airport has grown by an additional 6 million passengers to 46 million in total, with the station usage up to 20 million passengers.

Co-funded by the Department for Transport, Network Rail and Gatwick Airport Limited, the scheme will see the passenger experience revolutionised at the station between 2020 and 2022, with an upgraded ticket hall, and a new concourse for passengers to transfer from the trains into the airport.

Working together, Network Rail, their contractor Costain and their Designers TSP Projects have evolved the design through GRIP3 and 4 and are now taking the scheme to delivery.

The presentation will focus on how the Client and Funder requirements have evolved and been defined, key design challenges have been met, and development of a deliver strategy that puts the passenger first.
