Overview

The design of geosynthetics for applications other than reinforcement is often overlooked and products are routinely selected by engineers on the basis of recommendations and past history.

The design of geosynthetics is not normally taught as part of Civil Engineering courses, there are a number of text books to help engineers but there are no national or international standards.

ISO TC221 Geosynthetics has recognised this gap and the experts are currently working on developing a series of Technical Reports to provide a guide to good practice for the design of geosynthetics.

If well received the Technical Reports may later be further developed as full ISO Standards.
