Overview

The Edinburgh Area Branch Graduates and Students (G&S) Committee are hosting an online presentation that will cover:

  • Introducing college students to the ICE and student membership
  • An overview of what previous and current committee members have gained from being involved with their ICE local graduate and student committee
  • How you as a student member can get involved with the ICE through your local ICE graduate and student committee
  • A brief Q&A will be hosted at the end of the session

This event is targeted at students studying on NC, HNC and HND pathways in the wider Edinburgh area.

The event will firstly introduce attendees to ICE Student Membership briefly, highlighting how to sign-up and detailing some of the key benefits of ICE Student Membership as part of the session introduction. This will provide an overview of topics such as; resources available to ICE Student Members, how this can be desirable from an employer’s perspective and ultimately, how it can provide access to a variety of opportunities within the ICE via volunteering, technical events and other civil engineering activities.

Attendees will then have the opportunity to be introduced to the ICE Edinburgh Graduates and Students Committee. This will be covered by a variety of former members of our committee both past and present that are currently working within the construction industry.

We hope to provide a real insight into how the committee can be a great way of meeting other like-minded students and graduates at all levels in their careers. This has been found by many to act as a great support network for advice and to find out more simply, what is going on in the local area with respect to the ICE and civil engineering. The committee meet each month, with students more than welcome to attend and sit in on our meetings. Our Edinburgh G&S committee host a series of networking, social events, technical lectures, and competitions throughout the year, that students can also play a part in helping to host and organise alongside fellow committee members. We hope that from the insight of those involved past and present, that this will show the true value that can be added to the individual and the wider engineering community through events.
