The Thames Valley Graduate, Student and Apprentice committee are pleased to invite you to the next event in our series of virtual site visits.
This time, we will be ‘visiting’ one of the largest construction projects of the moment – High Speed 2. In particular, the talk will focus on the construction progress at the East West Rail (EWR) Overbridge, located in the Calvert Area of the project. This is being delivered by EKFB, a joint venture consisting of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial and BAM Nuttall.
Sion Bennett, a graduate civil engineer working for BAM Nuttall, will give a brief background to HS2 before discussing the EWR Overbridge in more detail, including its specifications, ancillary works and significance. He will then show us the construction progress to date before answering any questions you may have.
This talk will give a unique opportunity to see in more detail how a construction project of the scale such as HS2 has been managed and progressed. Furthermore, Sion will be able to provide the perspective of a graduate engineer who started their career in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and also showcase the work which contracting engineers undertake beyond physically being on site.
Note: Unfortunately the end of this recording is missing audio from 00:44-00:48
This is sure to be a highly interesting talk and we hope to see you there!
