Specific scenarios encountered by rail users will be covered, such as:

  • The significance of service design, and user experience to end goals in rail transport
  • The personal narratives methodology used during the national rail station audit programme
  • Arrival and departure, including accessible parking, EV charging and intramodality between modes of travel
  • Bridges, underpasses, and tunnels at stations and beyond
  • Horizontal and vertical circulation, including lifts etc.
  • Facilities, such as toilets, ticket counters etc.
  • Platform to train interfaces and boarding and alighting
  • Understanding sensory and neurodiversity needs
  • Managing emergencies equitably

This should give attendees an appreciation of inclusive design within the rail environment and specific items to consider in the design of new or upgraded railway infrastructure, particularly stations.
