Speaker: Jonathan Wright CEng MICE, Senior Programme Manager at Network Rail
The presentation will define inclusive design and its relevance to civil engineers in general, emphasising that it must be present at the start of the design process.
Jonathan will look at why inclusive design is important to the rail industry, for safety, passengers, future use, revenue, innovating to benefit everyone and the legal context, using case studies and studies of application such as Womersley Road bridge refurbishment/replacement and Birmingham’s Gateway project.
He will discuss Network Rail’s strategy – vision, consultation, Built Environment Access Panel (neutral expert advice for inclusive design issues) and education, and look at diversity impact assessment as an implementation tool and control measure.
