Joint initiative between ICE, CIWEM and RICS to develop an overarching code of practice for property level flood resilience (PLR), as it is now termed.

Presenter, Alastair Moseley, is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Water and Environmental Manager and ICE Fellow.

Alastair Moseley

He is a director of the water and environmental management consultancy business, H2O WEM Ltd and has had many senior roles in the water industry in a career spanning 33 years.

He is a specialist in surface water management and flood risk mitigation, and is currently leading an initiative to introduce an overarching Code of Practice for Property Level Flood Resistance that will transform the way that properties are made flood resistant to give confidence to property owners and insurers alike that the work has been done to an acceptable standard.

This work forms Action Point 4 of the Property Flood Resilience Action Plan launched in November last year. This will drive out the current situation where property level flood resistance work can be carried out by unqualified people, often to a very poor standard leaving property owners at risk of significant loss during flood events.

His talk will explain the need for the Code of Practice, how it will be created and how through this, PLR as it is known can become an accepted technique for inclusion in flood mitigation strategies. He will also highlight current best and worst practice in Property Level Resistance installation to illustrate the need for the Code.
