Overview

The Severn Bridge: from concept to 50 years in service

The presentation explains the historical basis for a crossing at the site, before exploring the development of the design concept between 1945 and 1962, and the construction between 1962 and 1966.

The two major phases of strengthening, in the 1970s and 1980s, are covered before discussing some recent maintenance challenges.
