Overview

PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, currently manages some 1.5 million water meters of various sizes that measure water consumption by customers. The meters are currently read manually on a bi-monthly basis, along with gas and electricity meters, and a monthly joint utilities bill is generated for water, electricity and gas.

Through this project, PUB envisages to implement a demonstration Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project, which will include supply, delivery and the installation of approximately 300,000 water meters together with the setup of a supporting AMI communications network and IT infrastructure; customer interface portal and mobile app; as well as planning for digital transformation related to AMI and overseeing the conduct of an NB-IoT trial.

Over time, PUB plans to progressively replace mechanical meters with Smart Water Meters, and thereby making water usage data readily accessible for consumers from tap to app.

The Smart Water Meters are designed to monitor and collect water consumption data. This will enable PUB to provide consumers with value-added services through a mobile customer app, such as understanding their water usage, and alerting households of suspected water leaks. Customers with smart meters will be able to track daily water.
