Shay Durnin

Following Graduation from Queens University Belfast, Shay Joined AECOM with a MEng in Civil Engineering.

Since beginning his early career Shay has been involved in a variety of transportation projects, initially working on strategic road improvement schemes in Northern Ireland and then pedestrian and cycle safety improvement schemes in England.

Shay’s work is now focused within Ireland, as a Scheme Designer and Project Engineer. He is currently seconded to the National Transport Authority’s (NTA) Cycle Design Office (CDO) where he develops schemes to invigorate active travel in Ireland.

Mark Coughlin

Mark is an undergraduate student who has so far completed 3 years of study for an MEng in Structural Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. Currently, he is mid-way through his industrial placement year with Design ID, during which time he has gained a variety of experience; from challenging Temporary Works designs for several bridge constructions, to designing complex connections on bespoke steelwork projects.

Mark has a keen interest in developing his technical design ability, aiming to achieve his Certificate in Structural Behaviour from IStructE. He also has a passion for incorporating technological advancements within the industry. Specifically, within the field of Structural Health Monitoring, Mark has researched how computer-vision techniques can be implemented to measure dynamic bridge displacement.

Patrick Montgomery

Patrick Montgomery is a Graduate Civil Engineer and joined the Arup Infrastructure North Team after achieving a First-Class Degree from the University of Portsmouth with previous placement experience working for Network Rail in York.

He has experience working on a mixture of multi-disciplinary rail projects across Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England including Transpennine Route Upgrade, Portobello Junction and various Translink projects including station upgrades and track renewals.

Patrick specialises in lineside rail civils design with CAD software packages to produce high quality 3-D models within common data environments. He has an aspiring interest to take a more data minded approach to engineering projects and utilise the full advantages of BIM.
