Spatial Adaption as a Planning Strategy for Climate Resilient Urban Areas

Overview

Investing in flood defences and flood and coastal resilience is vital to the UK becoming an economic power in decades to come. In 2020, the Environment Agency presented its National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy. This strategy recognises, that in the face of a changing climate, we also need a broader range of resilience actions. This will ensure that when flooding happens: it causes less harm and damage to people to ensure life can get back to normal sooner. For success in implementing this broader range of resilience actions, a multi-layered approach is needed.
