Overview
Anthropogenic climate changes due to increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases are causing our planet to warm to such an extent that it will lead to the collapse of civilisation as we know it unless we take drastic action.
The science is undisputed and now is the time for engineers to take up the challenge to transform our fossil fuel-based economy to a renewable sustainable economy that respects the boundaries of living within a closed world biosphere.
We already have all the necessary tools needed to achieve this goal but standing in our way are misguided policies, politics, lack of finance and lack of political will.
This talk will outline the challenges we face, the speaker’s personal experience as a government certified renewable installer and why he ended up in politics, the crucial role engineers can and must play in the survival of our planet and the great opportunities to shape the future.
