Overview

Join the ICE West Midlands Coventry and Warwickshire Branch for technical presentations by speakers across the industry on recent research towards net zero concrete.

Malaysia and the UK generate a combined stream of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) of over 70 million tonnes per year. Approximately 80% of this CDW is concrete that can be recovered as Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA), which in turn can be used to replace natural raw aggregates (sand and gravel) in new Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC).

Speakers will include:

  • Dr. Sudharshan N. Raman, associate professor in civil engineering, Monash University Malaysia
  • Dr Sid Pourfalah, founder, Concrete4Change Ltd

The first presentation will showcase how academia and industry in Malaysia and the UK combine efforts to transition towards more efficient uses of materials in construction and net zero in concrete. The second presentation will showcase recent work that Concrete4Change Ltd has been carrying out. The company are developing ground breaking technology to utilise and permanently mineralise CO₂ in concrete.
