Overview

Join speakers from the Environment Agency, North Norfolk District Council, Van Oord UK and Royal HaskoningDHV for a webinar about the Award Winning Bacton Sandscaping scheme.

The first of its kind in the UK, the Netherlands-inspired sand engine pumped 1.8 million m3 of sand along the coastline to combat the effects of climate change such as erosion and flooding. The scheme protects the nationally significant Bacton Gas terminal which supplies a third of the UK’s gas supply, and hundreds of homes in the communities of Bacton and Walcott, as well as improving leisure activities and the local environment. Exceptional Merit Award for Technical Excellence and Innovation in the East of England 2020 Awards.

This webinar is part of ICE President Rachel Skinner’s Visit to the East of England Region. Rachel will introduce the session, which falls under the ICE Knowledge strand of adapting and providing resilience to the impacts of climate change, and Chair Q&As with the speakers.
