An afternoon seminar and celebration to mark ten years of the Temporary Works Forum (TWf)

Temporary works is an important aspect of most projects; from the simple to the complex. The choice, design, use, maintenance and dismantling of a sound temporary works solution is essential in order to protect the asset being constructed and to mitigate risks to persons. There have been, and continue to be, failures of temporary works.

Against this background, in 2009, an interested and concerned group of senior and experienced engineers and managers considered that there should be a permanent industry-wide interest group to consider this subject and promulgate good practice. The Temporary Works Forum (TWf) was the result of that consideration. Prior to this, there had not been any representative body established to consider this important topic.

The TWf continues to grow and offers an effective forum for debate, for sharing and learning, for rapidly providing authoritative opinion and for networking. This guides its dealings with other industry groups, or informs the documents published. The TWf’s overall mission is to be an advocate and recognized authority on temporary works and construction method engineering, working to raise standards and awareness across the construction sector.

This seminar and reception is a chance to mark ten years of activity. In a series of short presentations – themed on the 3Ps (People, Process and Product) – speakers will cover a flavour of temporary works past, present and future and leave delegates with some thoughts upon which they and the industry can reflect (and perhaps action on).
