Join Institution Vice President Ed McCann, who will share findings from his recent review of engineering practice and the types of skills needed by the modern industry. Leadership, management and communication topped the list of skills on which civil engineers need to focus, with over 73% of research respondents naming these as the ones which civil engineers need to develop most along with digital skills. Practical knowledge and skills remain vitally important ingredients in a civil engineer’s make-up with technical skills, critical thinking and problem solving are as important as ever.
A culture of continuous learning needs to be embedded more deeply in the profession to ensure that individuals can meet skills requirements throughout their careers.
This is not-to-be missed event is for all professionals in the built environment but particularly those with an interest in remaining competitive, improving performance, recruitment and education.
This lecture will be immediately preceded by a short ICE Scotland AGM. Refreshments in the James Mackay Hall from 1730 with the AGM starting at 1800 in the Auditorium and lecture at 1830. The event takes place in the Auditorium.
